Staying confined in a room can prevent the spread of COVID19 but it can lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness. Below are a few ways you can help your parents stay connected.
- Create a Zoom account for them and schedule weekly or daily meeting with them. But share the grandparents with the grandkids and friends too! I heard of something really cool that a friend of mine did. She knew her dad liked to play chess and now that he’s confined in a room he couldn’t meet with his chess buddies. My friend have 2 daughters and one was taking Chess class in school. So she set up a Zoom Chess Class meeting between her daughter and her dad that’s in retirement home. Its working so well now other family members are joining in too! Now at least once a week and at a certain time her dad is busy teaching kids between 6 and 10 years old how to play like Magnus Carlsen! Oh he also have to spend time planning his weekly class. His daughter is working on creating a Facebook page for him.
- Are they on Facebook? Well tell them to join a group that they hate. Now this may sound counter intuitive but screaming at people that you really disagree with and having them scream back at you can be relieving and fun! I think it’s the same feeling dogs get when they bark through the gate at other dogs!
- Drop a shit load of CD’s for them to listen to.
- Lastly call them…often! Good luck
