Since the beginning of the moving industry, right after WW1, the industry through the railroad system and warehouses help the military move their troops around. After WWII, the industry switch from railroad to highways to move the greater public from state to state. As you can see the moving industry’s origin has been to moving people’s belongings to far places. Because back then people didn’t usually move locally so that makes sense. People didn’t start moving around not until after WWII.
Although as I am writing this article on May 19, 2020, larger moving companies do a lot more local moving then they used to, they are better set up to do long distance and international moves. They have a larger network of agents that they can call on. Larger Van Lines also have one of the largest insurance umbrella to protect your household goods while in transit.
